Why? · the argument, step by step
KA closes the conventional sign-group a-si-ja-ka, the heading of the tablet.
Patria observes that on both sides of HT28, after A-si-ja, KA is written smaller than the other signs, and that KA is written smaller when it has logographic value.
KA is the logogram of ka-na, written in full at the head of HT23a. It is also written smaller in IKA (HT91,1; HT102,4), in KA du-ma-jo (HT29,6), in KA.DI (ZA15b,1) and on ZA4a,8.
The same tablet carries HOMO+KA — a man carrying a KA in his hands — read as bearers of offerings, kanēphóroi; compare KApo-ru on HT115a,5.
HOMO+KA
KA as a logogram for an offering, or rather a basket for offerings (Greek kánna or kanâ): A-si-ja | KA, “offerings to Asía”.
ka, final syllable of the sign-group a-si-ja-ka.
Interpretive proposal. The reduced size of KA on HT28a is still to be checked on the facsimile.
