ma-ka-ri-te — Patria writes the heading “MA ka-ri-te . ki-ro . u-mi-na-si” (Reading p.16; Divinità p.3). No divider separates MA from ka-ri-te in the conventional transcription. Elsewhere (Reading p.3) she cites the group as ma-ka-ri-te (HT87,1-2 and 117a,1) while discussing the notched sign read ri.

Why does Enrica Patria separate MA?

  1. Observed01Observation

    AB80 opens the conventional sign-group ma-ka-ri-te.

    ma-ka-ri-teentry I.1
  2. Conventional02Edition

No divider separates MA from ka-ri-te in the conventional transcription.

  3. Proposed03Patria segmentation

    MA ka-ri-te . ki-ro . u-mi-na-si — MA is written as a unit of its own.

    Patria, Reading Linear A before translating it, p. 16 (HT117a heading)Patria, Divinità minoiche, p. 3 (HT117a heading)
  4. Proposed04Patria reading

MA is the logogram of máter, an epithet of the Great Mother; ka-ri-te is khárites: “thanks to MA”.

  5. Proposed05Support

Other attestations Patria cites for MA as a logogram: AMA, “royal (A) mother”, on MA1b; MARE, “RE of MA”, on HT55a,1; MA at the head of HT87.

Information still to be completed

Shown as visible placeholders, never filled in silently.

  1. SigLA readings, numerals, scribe and sign count are taken through lineara.eu (record built 2026-09-28); the SigLA document page itself has not been consulted.
  2. Facsimile and photograph: GORILA I page, photograph, rights and credit line; hotspot coordinates; exact position of the ruled line; orientation of 6.7 × 10.9 cm.
  3. Line numbering: entries are a sequence (I.1–I.12, II.1–II.6) in the line order of lineara.eu / SigLA (lines 1–18). Patria cites lines in her own numbering (Raison-Pope, with GORILA added): heading .1–2, tu-ju-ma .3–4, Na-daRE and te-jaRE .5, Ko-sa-no .7, DAminu and da-jo-ku .8 (–9). GORILA line numbers still to be aligned.
  4. te-*56-re: the SigLA word list (AB56, *56) and the lineara.xyz glyph string (AB57, ja) disagree at sign 2, as lineara.eu reports; recorded as an unresolved corpus conflict. The edition's reading is still to be checked.
  5. Patria's identifications not found in the three publications: ku-ku-da-ra (II.2) and ki-da-ro (II.6).
  6. Spelling variants within Patria's publications, recorded in claim notes: Náda / Néda, Theía / Theás / Teía, Kursános / Kósanos, Kábarnos / Kábarnoi, khḗroi / khẽroi.
  7. References: GORILA page for HT93a,6 and page numbers in GORILA I. Patria's three publications are cited from their own PDF pagination; venue and year are not stated in them.
  8. Conventional views from the bibliography still to be entered for ki-ro, u-mi-na-si, sa-ta, TI, AB34 and the personal names.
  9. Glyph rendering still to be checked against Noto Sans Linear A (code points are verified against the Unicode Character Database).
  10. Corpus counts: occurrences of MA, RE, TI, AB24 and AB34 across the corpus.
